Effectiveness of Energy Transfer versus Mixing Entropy in Coupled Mechanical–Electrical Oscillators

چکیده
Electrostatic energy harvesters convert kinetic into electrical via variable capacitors. Efforts to improve their power output are hampered by a lack of understanding the fundamental limit for conversion efficiency. In heat engines, theoretical efficiency is intrinsically related entropy and second law thermodynamics. Laying foundation similar concepts may be necessary establishing limit. Thus, mixing concept borrowed from statistical mechanics adapted here, first time, characterize transfer between coupled mechanical–electrical oscillators. The investigated system composed spring-mass an inductance-capacitor circuit capacitor. Combining two subsystems (electrical mechanical) generates entropy, referred as entropy. A non-dimensional study governing equations systems terms carried out. Limiting Phase Trajectories and Resonance Energy Transfer in a System of Two Coupled Oscillators
We study a problem of energy exchange in a system of two coupled oscillators subject to 1 : 1 resonance. Our results exploit the concept of limiting phase trajectories LPTs . The LPT, associated with full energy transfer, is, in certain sense, an alternative to nonlinear normal modes characterized by conservation of energy. We consider two benchmark examples. As a first example, we construct an...
متن کاملTransfer Entropy for Coupled Autoregressive Processes
A method is shown for computing transfer entropy over multiple time lags for coupled autoregressive processes using formulas for the differential entropy of multivariate Gaussian processes. Two examples are provided: (1) a first-order filtered noise process whose state is measured with additive noise, and (2) two first-order coupled processes each of which is driven by white process noise. We f...
متن کاملDirect observation of coherent energy transfer in nonlinear micromechanical oscillators
Energy dissipation is an unavoidable phenomenon of physical systems that are directly coupled to an external environmental bath. In an oscillatory system, it leads to the decay of the oscillation amplitude. In situations where stable oscillations are required, the energy dissipated by the vibrations is usually compensated by replenishment from external energy sources. Consequently, if the exter...
متن کاملSharp versus smooth synchronization transition of locally coupled oscillators.
We provide a general condition for the occurrence of a sudden transition to synchronization in an array of oscillators mutually coupled via the nearest neighbors. At the onset of synchronization a specific constraint must be fulfilled: precisely, the response time of a single system to signals from the adjacent sites must be smaller than the refractory period. We verify this criterion in some m...
